Missy, aka Munchkin, was abandoned in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot in an open carrier in the winter. Found by the office manager of a vet's office, Missy made her way to our shelter. It didn't take long before someone fell in love with her. It also didn't take long for Missy to take over the most comfortable chair in the house!

This guy has been from New Hyde Park to Oyster Bay and now he's found his own home in Yonkers. Pictured here with his new family, Yelena and Danny, Billy leaves our shelter to have a great life. Don't forget us Billy!

Inky (left) and Callie would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day!

Igor and Eenie are on the hunt to hire someone to clean the shelter. Job responsibilities include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, general cleaning duties, litter boxes, cages, laundry, feeding and occasional medical treatments. Must be 21 or older (and love cats!). Fax resume to 516-431-1745 (phone line will switch to fax) or email to info@theladewcatsanctuary.org. For further information, call Susan at 516-431-1745.

Happy New Year from Mama Rose and all the cats, kittens (and humans) at The Patricia H. Ladew Foundation!

Whiskers in Wonderland was not only a lot of fun, but 5 of our kitties found great homes (Penny, pictured, was one of them!) Thanks to all our great volunteers (and elves!)

Photographed and designed by our own Lynn Manno, the 2011 Ladew Sanctuary Calendar features kitties that are up for adoption and some that were lucky enough to be adopted! Lynn manages to get these kitties to do some pretty cute things for the camera. All proceeds go directly to the Patricia H. Ladew Foundation. Click on the link to order! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130458298114

Happy Halloween from all of us at The Patricia H. Ladew Foundation (photographed and created by the incredible Lynn Manno!)

The house with new siding, new windows and a new porch. Still lots to do . . . stay tuned!
Part one of the renovation project: Let there be light! We have new recessed lighting throughout the house upstairs. We're hoping that the cats can't figure out how to work the dimmers!
Paisley
You can help kitties like Paisley (Paisley was adopted!) by using http://www.goodsearch.com. The Patricia H. Ladew Foundation should come right up from the link, but if it doesn't it is easily found by typing it in.
Each time you use Goodsearch just to search will result in the shelter getting money from goodsearch. If you use it to shop (and participating stores are many, including Amazon and Lord & Taylor) Goodsearch will donate a percentage of what you purchase to the shelter AT NO COST TO YOU!. You can help us raise the money and it won't cost you a CENT! Please Help us help the kitties by using Goodsearch for the holidays and beyond.
Slinky goes from being an outside kitty to a new warm home for the winter and beyond. We'll miss you Slinky -- don't forget to write!
Ike and his brother, Freddie (who was not as cooperative for a picture!) find their new family! Happy lives guys -- don't forget to send us a text from time to time!
Gabby's first day with her new family! Don't forget to write!
Fester & Prudence found a great home yesterday at the 2009 Cat Show -- we're not sure who's happier, Tatum, their new family or Fester and Prudence -- it's a tough call! Happy life you guys!
Chloe finds her new home at the 2009 Cat Show! Don't forget to email us Chloe!
CB (who was found on the Cross Bronx Expressway) finds a new home!
PHLF staff at the 2009 cat show where 9 cats and kittens found loving homes -- way to go team!
Lilly
Ok, so we're not exactly sure who's drinking the wine, but that sure looks like one relaxed happy cat!
Coco
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
It's me, Pepper! I'm Coco now and I just wanted to let you know that I also learned how to fetch! Lilly (Haley) and I are doing great!
Love,
Coco
Gerald Isaacs once again donated his time and expertise to the shelter adding a "second story" for the kitties. In this room, the cats can access it by a staircase. Stay tuned for more additions!
Bubbles was one of the first cats to take a walk around the new upper level -- soon followed by many more!
Oreo, who was once shown the door and put outside because his owner no longer wanted him, has no hard feelings. At the sanctuary, he has risen in the ranks from homeless to Construction Supervisor. He is available for adoption to the right home. (power tools not included).
Ryan Hallock (shown here with his mom & Jasmine the cat) is fulfilling his community service by taking much needed photos of the cats for the shelter. After he's finished with the photos, Ryan has offered to write the bios that are sent to people after they sponsor one of our kitties. Way to go Ryan -- we don't know what we'd do without you!
Sydney enjoys one of the many new window ledges at the shelter.
Gerald Isaacs volunteered his time and expertise in creating new window ledges for the cats both upstairs and downstairs. Of course none of this would be possible without Oreo.
Hi -- it's me Chia! Just wanted to let you all know that dogs aren't so bad. And no, they didn't change my name to Trooper. That's the dog's name. See -- he lets me sleep in his bed. (okay, okay, so he's out for a walk -- what he doesn't know won't hurt him!). Miss you -- Happy Holidays! Love,
Chia
Love, Chia
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
Hi It's me, Chia with my new friend Trooper. I just wanted to say happy holidays to all my friends at the shelter. Don't give up guys, maybe someday you'll get a great home like me - maybe you can even get your own dog like I did!
Sophie also found herself her forever family at the cat show. Yay, Sophie!
Sasha was also among one of the lucky kitties who found themselves a home at the cat show. Keep in touch Sasha!
Veterinary Assistant Andrea Castro & Dr. Susan Whittred vaccinating and testing 28 cats in Brooklyn in a rescue effort organized by the Mayor's Alliance of New York City's Animals after their owner died suddenly. Read the full story at http://www.animalalliancenyc.org/newsletter/08-12/neighbor.htm
Sylvia also found herself a great home at the Cat Show! Keep in touch Sylvia -- we miss you!
I'm not sure who's happier about finding her forever home, Twiggy or Kathy (Kathy's the one with the hat). Anyway, we're all thrilled that this fabulous girl got a home! Keep in touch Twiggy!
Paris (in the picture) and Twiggy, (see above) were lucky enough to find a home together! Thanks to Carol Ann for having a heart and a home big enough for the two of them.
As hard as it was to say goodbye to Maude, we were thrilled that she found such a great home. We're hoping that she'll stay in touch by email (if she has any time for us anymore!)
Buzzy came back to visit us at the very same place where he found his forever home last year! He's one gorgeous boy and we thank Soraya for bringing him by for us to see him!
The 2008 Madison Square Garden Cat Show was a huge success. We adopted out 8 cats to 8 fabulous homes! Thank you to all for your hard work that day (and always) and to all the kind people who opened their hearts and their homes to our kitties!
Ladew took to the road on August 21st, 2008. Pictured here are Hank, our driver from North Shore, Andrea, our veterinary technician and Kathy, our shelter caretaker.
Wow, can't believe it's almost a whole year since I saw you guys! My family just loves me (of course, look at how handsome I turned out!) and I think they're pretty cool too! Hope more kitties get good homes like me at the Cat Show this year -- hmmmm maybe I can even talk my new family into a little brother or sister -- purrrrrrrr. Maybe I'll see you there! Love, Oliver
Oliver
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
It's me Java (now known as Blaze and aptly titled according to my new job, see below). I miss all of you but I like living in Brookklyn. There are tissues to shred, cufflinks to kill, shoelaces to assassinate and even a cardboard box to hide in or scratch to pieces. I also have a little brother (who is SO annoying). I have very important responsibilities here. I am the Fire Marshal and here you see me inspecting the fire escape. I also enforce the rule that the door to the bedroom is to remain OPEN at all times. If it is not, I lean against it until it is, or until someone with thumbs comes along to open it. I am also very tidy and make sure everyone in the apartment is clean. Anyway, I hope everyone is well out there. Love,
Blaze (nee Java)
Hey Ladew Gang!
Blaze
Hope you're all well! Love,
Angie & Jack
Hi everybody! It's us, Angie & Jack (formerly Pumpkin and Phoebe)! We just wanted to let you know that we're doing great in our new home. Our mom absolutely dotes on us (as it should be) and we pretty much run the entire household. That's if running a household consists of playing, eating and sleeping. Anyway, mom says we're getting big and strong and will keep the pictures coming!
Angie & Jack
It's me! Checkers! You know the shy guy who used to run when anyone would come looking to adopt a kitten? The one you tried and tried and tried to coax out from under the couch? Well, I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate all your efforts, but I was really just waiting for this one family to come so I could adopt them! Believe it or not I now like to cuddle up with people when they read books too! Sorry I pretended to be shy, but I was really just waiting for the perfect family to come along. Thanks for finding them for me. Love,
Checkers
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
Checkers (editors note: good cover Checkers, you really had us all fooled. Just goes to show you how smart cats are!)
Hi! It's me, Buzzy! I'm still buzzing around, although I now take some time out to watch some of my favorite shows. It's been awhile since I left you guys when I got adopted at the Cat Show so I just wanted to drop you a line and let you know that I'm doing really well and I was adopted by a family that just love me to bits (then again, I am irresistable aren't I?). I love them back just as much even though they like to dress me up in a Santa hat at Christmas. What the heck -- it's only once a year and I figure a small price to pay to be able to watch a big flat screen. Simon, Paula & Randy look awesome on a big screen. Why does Randy have to call everyone dawg though? Cats are so much better. Anyway, gotta run, Idol's on. Hope you guys get adopted. Love,
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
Buzzy
My people finally learned to send photos so here I am at 11 months! Aren't I a beauty (even if I do say so myself!) I love my family and my brother Puck (a black cat who loves me back). I also have a new cat nephew named Boscoe who used to live with you guys at the sanctuary. He lives with my human brother Matthew who adopted him from you guys last week. You probably remember Boscoe since it was just last week (but I know how the short term memory goes sometimes). I'm glad he's living somewhere else though. He was visiting with us but I was kind of jealous of him (you know, new kitten and how people ooh and aah over them!). I miss all of you but I'm happy in my new home. Love,
Reuben
Hi Guys!
Reuben
Hi! It's me, Boscoe! I miss everyone, but I'm really happy in my new home. Matthew loves me, bought me new toys and even lets me sleep with him. I have two cat friends, Puck and Reuben. They didn't like me staying with them for Christmas, but I didn't care so much. I hope you all find good homes too. Keep in touch! Love,
Boscoe & Matthew
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
Boscoe
Love,
Just wanted to say hi to all my buddies -- I'm here with some of my new family, Eliyah and Erika. You can't believe how great it is to have your own home. Hope the rest of you guys are as lucky as me!
Fiona
Thanks to the Mayor's Alliance of New York City's Animals, we were invited to participate in Madison Square Garden's 2007 Cat Show. We were lucky enough to meet some great people and even better, got 72% of the cats we brought with us fabulous forever homes! A big thank you to our volunteers and an even bigger thank you to those who opened their hearts and homes to our kitties. :)
Hey! Remember us? It's Mickey & Rudy! We were adopted from you at different times, but since we came from the same place we think we're brothers anyway. We're doing great -- we live in Long Beach by the ocean but prefer sitting in an empty tub (you know how cats hate water)! Anyway, just wanted to drop you a line and if you ever get to Long Beach, come visit us!
Mickey & Rudy
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
Overwhelmed with what new shows to watch? Set up your tivo and join us at Madison Square Garden on Sunday, October 14th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Cat Show! You can find us in the Adopt-A-Cat area. Even if you're not looking to adopt, stop by and say hi and update us on the antics of shelter kitties you've adopted from us. Hope to see you there!
Love,
Cosmo (formerly known as Astro)
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
Hi it's me, Astro! Now they call me Cosmo. Me and Spike are having a great time in our new home. I've been trying to brush up on my golf game, but I'm really best at just chasing the ball. When you hit it with that stick you have to go really far to get it back and I'm just too tired to be bothered. Frankly, I really don't get the whole golf thing anyway, but the people I live with now seem to like it so I'm trying to be supportive.
Cosmo
Spike
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
Remember me? It's me Spike! You know, the one who had a little bit of a rough beginning? It's probably hard to recognize me since I'm a little bigger now -- I just wanted to let you know that me and Astro (now Cosmo) are having a great time in our new home. Thanks for the second chance. And speaking of Chance (see below), in answer to his question, not all cats are orange buddy.
Chance, Chynah and and Chase
It's me Chance again. I just have a question. Do cats come in other colors or are we all orange tabbies?
Love,
Chance (aka Elton)
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
Hi! It's me, Elton! I just wanted to say hi and thank you so much for introducing me to my new family. As you can see I have really grown up. I have a sister Chynah and a new brother named Chase who looks just like me. Say hi to all my friends at the shelter.
Chance
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
Well, Scooter certainly fits his name as he scoots around the house after our other cats, Toby, Inky, Hemi and Baby. Our sons, Nicky and Alex love him and play with him all the time. As you can see by the picture, he has a bit of a bathroom fetish and follows us in whenever he can - he waits in the sink until we are ready to leave the room!
Scooter is a great cat and loved very much. Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to have him in our lives!
From,
Scooter's family.
I told you I'd never forget the little people when I made it in the big time. It's Mama Cass here, although now my fans call me Halle. As you can see I'm living the good life but think about my younger days at the shelter fondly. I've put on a couple of pounds for my upcoming role in "California Dreaming." Meow baby (or is that ciao baby?)
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
Francis (aka Sylvester)
Dear Ladew Cat Sanctuary:
I'm having a pretty wild time in my new home. My new name is Francis, but it's still me, Sylvester. Me and Ruppert live with two bigger cats. Sometimes they get a little annoyed with us. I even make this face at them but they don't always laugh. Unless a hiss is a laugh in Manhattan. Big cats are weird. Anyway just wanted to say hi to all my friends at the shelter.
Love,
Francis (Sylvester) P.S. did I leave my red mouse there?
Dr. James Richards and Elizabeth
It is with nearly inconsolable sadness that we report the death of Dr. Jim Richards, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Sunday. Dr. Richards was a dear friend, mentor, advisor and feline advocate. He was the Director of the Cornell Feline Health Center, The Dr. Louis J. Camuti Memorial Feline Consultation and Diagnostic Service and Editor-in-Chief of CatWatch. No-one will ever replace him. He is survived by his wife, Anita, his sons Seth and Jesse and his mother and our heartfelt sympathies go out to them. He was an amazingly kind person and his loss will be mourned by the entire veterinary community for a long time to come.
The Carpenters
Brandon's Grandma, Stephanie, came out to pick up the latest additions to the Carpenter family, Mocha Latte & Noodles. Congratulations to the Carpenters and good luck on your presentation Brandon! The kitties appreciate your teaching others how to take care of cats and the importance of spaying and neutering -- good job!
Ryan, Carter And Sam
Ryan, Carter and Sam came to visit the sanctuary on their Easter vacation and made a whole lot of cats a whole lot of happy! The cats wanted us to tell Ryan, Carter & Sam to please come back anytime -- they really had fun!
The Associated Press has just learned that last year Happy signed herself into rehab after glimpsing herself in the mirror. The Press has also learned that she is now living in Manhattan under the name of Harper. Stay tuned.
Joey Loses The Remote
What the heck does Sanjaya have on his head? Can he possibly be the next American Idol?
Did Spunky take it? How will they watch TV? Tune in for the latest news!
