Spot’s story began when his owner was suddenly taken to the hospital.
When a social worker later entered the apartment, she discovered Spot there alone and contacted the police. Spot was brought to Animal Care Centers of NYC — but there was one heartbreaking problem: his owner’s family had no idea any of this had happened. They didn’t know where Spot had gone.
Eventually, the family was able to get into the apartment and found paperwork showing that Spot had been taken to ACC.
By then, Spot had been transferred to us at the Ladew Foundation. We had already fallen in love with this sweet senior boy and were preparing to find him a new home. He even had someone interested in adopting him, and Spot had received much-needed dental care while he was with us.
Then came the email we never expected. Spot already had a family!
Of course, there was only one thing to do and today, Spot’s family came to take him home.
And this reunion comes with a little extra security. Spot will now be part of our Seniors for Seniors program, which means his medical care will be covered for life at one of our participating veterinarians. He is also microchipped, so if he ever becomes separated from his family again, we can help make sure he finds his way home.
We are also so grateful to the wonderful person who had hoped to adopt Spot. When she learned that his family had been searching for him, she immediately gave her blessing for this reunion.
Today there were tears, hugs, and one very loved cat finally back where he belongs.
Spot is home. on 9/28/26.
